Sancho Panza and Rocinante Ride Again! Video Dispatch

by Dennis McKenna / Wednesday, September 27 2023 / Published in Dispatches from the Road

Next spring Clay will begin a two-year journey following John Steinbeck’s Travels With Charley trek across America.

Clay returned from his cultural tour of Greece to find the license plate for his new Airstream in the mail. He’s christened the rig Panza, after Don Quixote’s loyal sidekick, Sancho Panza. Clay’s 2013 GMC Sierra pickup, which tows the Airstream, is licensed as Rocinante after Quixote’s noble horse and the name John Steinbeck famously gave his truck camper in his 1960 cross-country expedition immortalized in Travels With Charley In Search Of America. In the spring of 2024, Clay will begin a journey with his Rocinante and Panza (no Charley) to track Steinbeck’s trek across America and assess the country as it approaches its 250th birthday. Stay tuned to Listening to America for details on Clay’s trip and how you can join the adventure!
