The Heroism of SuAnne Big Crow — Video Dispatch

by Clay Jenkinson / Tuesday, November 14 2023 / Published in Dispatches from the Road
Clay and LTA videographer Nolan Johnson were driving through the Pine Ridge reservation in South Dakota this summer on their way to Nebraska when Clay spotted the recreation center honoring SuAnne Big Crow, the Oglala woman who stunned South Dakota with her talent and grace, but who died in a one-car accident on February 9, 1992, just 17 years old. Clay shares SuAnne’s story in this short video. Clay first read about the heroism of SuAnne Big Crow years ago in Ian Frazier’s book On the Rez.
