Kicking off his 2025 transcontinental Lewis and Clark trek, Clay spends the day at Poplar Forest, the beloved personal retreat of Thomas Jefferson, the mastermind behind the famous Corps of Discovery.
On May 6, Clay kicked off his trip following the Lewis and Clark expedition across the continent. To mark the start of his trek, Clay visited the second home and personal retreat of Thomas Jefferson, the mastermind behind the famous Corps of Discovery. Clay toured the octagonal home, lovingly designed by Jefferson, and spoke with the facility’s retired Director of Restoration, Travis McDonald. During his visit, Clay gave a special presentation on Jefferson’s 18th-century view of the American West and his hopes for Lewis and Clark’s groundbreaking journey.
