Oppenheimer

Join Clay Jenkinson as he travels to the heart of New Mexico, where history, science, and literature converge in a captivating exploration of the life of J. Robert Oppenheimer and the making of the Atomic Bomb.

On this small group tour, explore the remarkable life, work, and character of Oppenheimer quantum physicist, student of Eastern religions, expert on the poetry of John Donne, and victim of the ideological excesses of the Cold War. Immerse yourself in the secrets and innovations that took place in Los Alamos from 1942-1945, where discoveries in nuclear physics led to the successful creation of atomic weapons. In addition to our tours in Los Alamos, we will also visit a key atomic site in Santa Fe and the National Museum of Nuclear Science and History in Albuquerque.

  • Clay recommends all participants read American Prometheus: The Triumph and Tragedy of J. Robert Oppenheimer prior to the tour.
